  • Live animals will not be accepted as checked-in Animal in Hold (AVIH) or Pet in Cabin (PETC) on Kenya Airways flights. 
  • Live animals shall be consigned as cargo only.

Exception: Service or emotional support dog

Service or emotional support dog shall be accepted in the cabin if it’s providing assistance to a person with disability i.e. Blind guest, a person with mental or psychiatric disorder. The dog is certified and individually trained to provide assistance to a person with a disability.

Passengers with mental or psychiatric condition and needing to travel with an emotional support dog may be required to present certain documentation from a licensed medical health professional that is treating the passenger, dated within one year, stating that the emotional support dog is necessary for the passenger/s mental health or treatment during air travel and/or any activity at the passengers’ destination. 

Service or emotional support dogs are: 

  • Accepted free of charge.
  • They can be accepted in the cabin without a kennel/cage provided they are properly harnessed and do not occupy a seat.
  • Service and emotional support dogs are trained to behave properly. An animal that shows disruptive behavior cannot be accepted as a guide animal even if it performs assistive function for the guest.
  • On a flight segment which is 8 hours or more, ask the guest to provide documentation that the animal will not need to relieve itself during the flight or if the guest has in possession any items for the animal (e.g. nappies, medicine) to avoid any health or sanitation issue on the flight. If this is not the case the guide dog cannot be accepted.
  • Passengers with service or emotional support dogs can be accepted on any seat in the cabin except exit rows.
  • The animal shall seat at the feet of the passenger seat (or at the feet/floor of the adjacent seat , if it is not occupied)
  • The service or emotional support dog shall not obstruct the aisle.
  • Advanced reservation is required, PNR “ESAN’
  • The information is also made available in the PIL in order to inform the crew. 

Transportation of dogs to USA

From July 14 through October 14, 2021, dogs coming from high-risk countries with CDC Dog Import Permits can enter the United States at one of these 18 airports: Anchorage, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago (ORD), Dallas (DFW), Detroit, Honolulu, Houston (IAH), Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York (JFK), Newark, Philadelphia, San Francisco, San Juan, Seattle, and Washington, DC (Dulles). 

All dogs imported into the United States must be healthy on arrival. Dogs that have not been in a high-risk country in the previous 6 months are not required by CDC to present a rabies vaccination certificate or other paperwork, but vaccination against rabies is recommended.

These rules apply to all dogs, including puppies, service animals, and emotional support dogs. These rules also apply whether you are: 

  • Just visiting the United States with your dog
  • Importing dogs into the United States
  • Traveling out of the United States and returning with your dog after a temporary visit, such as a vacation or holiday, or for shopping or visiting friends and relatives. 

If you do not follow CDC’s rules, your dog may not be allowed to enter the United States.
