    Tourists Guide & General Information

Bangkok is the capital and most densely populated City in Thailand. It is known locally (In Thai) as Krung Thep. Bangkok was founded in April 1782, after it had been originally settled in the 15th Century. It is a major tourist attraction, and Bangkok was named a few years in a row as the “World’s Best City.”

    Festivals & Special Events

There are daily events and festivals held in the City of Bangkok. The most well-known are:

    • Songkran Festival

During April, the Thai people celebrate their new year over a three-day festival. It is a scorching hot time of year, which is why many tourists refer to it as the Water Festival. People throw water at each other and have friendly water fights. It keeps everyone cool. The original festival can still be witnessed at a few homes, stores and temples. Images of Buddha are put up and small amounts of water are sprinkled over them.

    • Loy Krathong

This is Thailand’s most stunning festival, and takes place over the evening of the first full moon in November. As it gets dark, people find a body of water where they place a Krathong (a float made from banana wood) on the water. A prayer is said to bless the Water Goddess and Buddha, and a few coins, incense and flowers are added before they let the float go.
