UK Travel Requirements – Important Update

UK Travel Requirements

Last updated: 11 November 2025, 12:27

The UK is moving to a digital immigration system to make travel smoother.

Everyone traveling to the UK (except British and Irish citizens), including children, must have valid permission before traveling.

You will need either:

  • an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) or
  • an eVisa

Visa nationals will continue to require a UK visa (UK Entry Clearance) for short stays (up to 6 months) for travel and entry to the UK.

Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)

If you previously travelled to the UK without a visa for short stays (up to 6 months) and do not live in the UK, you must now apply for an ETA.

From 25 February 2026, eligible passengers without an ETA will not be able to board their flight and cannot legally travel to the UK.

eVisa (Digital Immigration Status)

The UK is replacing physical immigration documents with digital eVisas.

You should take action if:

  • You have an expired Biometric Residence Permit( BRP) or Biometric Residence Card( BRC) or have status under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) → Create a UK Visa and Immigration Account to access your eVisa before you travel : www.gov.uk/eVisa
  • You have Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) proven by a visa stamp or vignette → Apply for a free No Time Limit application to get an eVisa
  • You already have an eVisa → Make sure your current passport is linked to your account Update details at: www.gov.uk/update-uk-visas-immigration-account-details

From 25th February 2026, eligible passengers without an eVisa may experience inconvenience and delays when travelling to the UK as additional checks may be required to confirm their UK immigration status, and they may be denied boarding.
