KQ Chief Executive wins coveted Airline Award
Tuesday, September 1, 2009: Kenya Airways Group Managing Director and CEO Dr Titus Naikuni was awarded the 2009 Aviation & Allied Business Individual Achievement Award.
The individual achievement honour was also awarded to Dr Taieb Cherif the former Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
The awards were presented by Ethiopian Airline CEO Mr. Girma Wake, Captain Edward Boyo, the publisher Aviation & Allied Business Journal and his Excellency former Prime Minister of Niger Dr. Ibrahim Mayaki during the 15th Aviation & Allied Business Leadership Conference at the Hilton Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Tuesday.
Corporate Achievement awards were presented to Ethiopia Airports Enterprise, South African Express and Precision Air – in which Kenya Airways owns 49 percent stake.
The Aviation & Allied Business Individual Achievement Award is facilitated by readers across Africa, Europe, Middle East and North America.
Dr Naikuni said: “This is a great milestone in my contribution to the development of the aviation industry particularly in Africa and the world in general. I feel truly honoured for this recognition.”
He lauded the aviation industry for making it easy to transact business across Africa and urged his industry colleagues in the continent to closely work together.
These Awards are conferred on distinguished individuals and corporates of the Aviation community in Africa who have contributed immensely to the collective drive to uplift the status of air transport in Africa.
The Conference is a robust platform used to forge positive growth for the aviation industry in Africa especially in the face of challenges facing the industry.
The 15th Leadership Conference with the theme: Air Transport In Africa: One Continent, One Strategy took to encourage the realization of shared vision within Africa as this is a necessary spur for growth.
The conference seeks to drive resilience and positive change in airports, airlines, air navigation management and capacity building as well as finance and aviation policy in Africa.
Over 300 delegates including high-level government functionaries and aviation experts were at the Conference.
The Leadership Conference is a private-sector driven initiative held annually since 1995 and attracts leaders and distinguished personalities in the air transport industry across the globe.
It has continued to receive attendance from the leadership of various international agencies and organisations in Africa including the African Union Commission, African Airlines Association, African Civil Aviation Commission, Airports Council International-Africa and the International Air Transport Association.
