Kenya Airways launches an On-board Donation Platform

Nairobi, July 20, 2011…. Kenya Airways has launched a fund-raising initiative in support of the various charitable activities across the network.

In the initiative dubbed “Change makes Change”, passengers can make voluntary cash donations in specially designed envelopes each Kenya Airways flight. Kenya Airways hopes to raise the funds for its community social responsibilities by encouraging passengers on both international and local flights to make the donations.

The airline serves over three million passengers every year and flies to 55 destinations worldwide.

“Kenya Airways Corporate Social Responsibility team will ensure the funds are then used in selected projects aimed at improving lives of the various communities across the network that we fly into,” said Dr Titus Naikuni, the airline's Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

Kenya Airways offers support to communities in countries that it operates; namely in the areas of education, environment, water and health as part of its contribution to the sustainable development of its destinations.

Last year, Kenya Airways investment in communities increased to KSh 28M with an aim of enriching, empowering people and reducing poverty. Pride of Africa also planted over 250,000 seedlings during its “Plant a Future” day. The airline is also the first in Africa to join the European Union Emissions Tax system EU ETS program.

Kenya Airways donated desks, built classrooms and dining hall in various schools including Iloirero primary school in Kajiado district, Ikuu special school in Meru district. The airline also supported initiatives in Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda and Nigeria.

The Change Makes Change campaign has also factored in passengers request for their donations to be used to various CSR activities. This is a show that the airline supports the cause that is close to its customers hearts.
