Guangzhou is the
capital of Guangdong Province in southern China. Located as part of the Pearl
River Delta, Guangzhou lies between 112°57'E to 114°3'E and 22°26'N to 23°56'N.
The city spreads across 7, 434 sq. km.
It is also the fifth most populous in China. Guangzhou Guangdong enjoys
sub-tropical type of climate. The annual average temperature of Guangzhou is about 22
degree Celsius, with August being the hottest month and January the coldest.
During the rainy season between the months of April and August, Guangzhou
receives almost 1700 millimeter of rainfall. Major exchange earners include;
Machinery and electronic products, garments and fashion accessories. It has a
population of 68.7 million.
The official language is Mandarin (or Putonghua, based on the Beijing dialect).
Local dialects include Yue (Cantonese), Wu (Shanghaiese), Minbei (Fuzhou),
Minnan (Hokkien-Taiwanese), Xiang, Gan, Hakka dialects, and other minority
languages. Most tourist hotels have staff that are fluent in foreign languages.
